As part of its commitment to deepen the commodity trading ecosystem and attract more foreign exchange to the country, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is expected to host a webinar in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Mines and Development of steel (MMSD).
The webinar on “Capital Market Funding of the Solid Minerals Sector and the Critical Role of Commodity Exchanges” will be held on July 15, 2021.
The SEC noted that Nigeria is currently developing its solid minerals sector to diversify its economy and government revenue sources.
This is in line with the Commission’s 10-year Capital Market Master Plan (2015-2025) which has as one of its main objectives the development of a dynamic commodity trading ecosystem. Targeted products include non-agricultural products such as products from mining activities.
According to an SEC statement, the ecosystem can foster inclusive mining prosperity by effectively mobilizing medium and long-term finance for solid mineral projects, connecting raw materials to industries, creating jobs, unlocking potential economic development of mining communities and, ultimately, by generating economic development, through better market access, price transparency and standardization.
âThe webinar is open to mining companies, artisanal and small-scale miners, federal and state government officials, regulators, industry bodies, academics, asset managers, pension fund administrators, providers of legal and advisory services, to capital market and solid minerals players, âthe SEC added.
